Market Madre – The Freelancer’s Blog for Inspiration, Encouragement and Learning
Welcome to the Market Madre blog where I’ll be talking about all things writing and marketing and maybe a few things not. I’ll use this space to write about all manner of topics related to content and copy writing, blogging, editing and more. The articles here are designed to educate and help anyone who wants a better understanding of freelancing as it relates to writing and marketing. Before I launch into the educational side of things, I thought I’d get a little personal about who I am and what writing means to me.
If you know me at all, you know I love to write. I am passionate about stringing words together in a way that is interesting, meaningful and that breathes new life into even the most boring of topics.
I knew at an early age that writing was my “thing” and though I entered college with an undeclared major, it didn’t take long for me to realize that this was what I wanted to spend my professional life doing. I had what some might consider an odd obsession with all things English related. Most of my cohorts weren’t exactly thrilled to delve into fresh new English textbooks and begin exploring new styles of writing. I was. Don’t get me wrong. Not all writing came easy for me. Poetry was never my forte. The cleverest poem I ever wrote was a limerick for my 10th grade English class about a dancing woman in France. It wasn’t one of the highlights of my writing career – let’s just leave it at that.
But when it came to essays, reports and research papers, I couldn’t get enough. I loved the strategy involved. Still do! I loved choosing a topic and manipulating words to make even the most boring subjects into something interesting, educational, and engaging. Writing like this has to be well-thought-out and often researched. It’s like a puzzle and if put together well, it evokes emotion and inspires action – that’s powerful and exciting.
I began “Getting it Write for You,” what I called my “hobby” freelance business not too long after I graduated college. At that time, writing was just something I did from home while raising babies. There was no job more important to me than being a mom (there still isn’t), but my writing fulfilled me in a way that nothing else could.
Eventually though, I received a job offer I couldn’t refuse to work in sales at a rapidly growing consumer electronics company where I stayed for five years. I couldn’t juggle four children, a job plus my freelance writing. I let my writing go.
Although I loved my sales job, I always had this nagging feeling – that I could be successful at freelancing. I already had a taste of success! So, over the last few months, I put together a plan and prepared myself to embark on the career I’ve always dreamed of chasing. Welcome Market Madre – my freelance writing business!
My personal mission in life is to educate, inspire and encourage everyone I touch. These are reoccurring themes that embrace all aspects of my life – my friendships, my children, and now my business. I’ve decided to continue to embrace the tagline from my former blog, “A blog of inspiration, learning and encouragement for writers of all genres.” So, if you are looking for a little inspiration, education and encouragement, I hope you will join me in my journey here.
